Calendar of Events for 2010

Saturday, 9th January ANNUAL LUNCH
12.30pm.  Three Ways Hotel, Mickleton.  Cost £20.50 per head, to include a glass of wine.  Ela Palmer, the director of ASHTAV, has been invited to attend as our guest.
Tuesday, 9th February MAINTAINING A MAJOR MONUMENT
Derek Clarke R.I.B.A. will talk about the subtleties of maintaining historical integrity.  A testing project for Mr Clarke ... the Royal Naval College at Greenwich.  Sure to be another fascinating insight.
Tuesday, 9th March LUNARTICK ASTRONOMY
Andrew Loundes.  Concerning the famous eighteenth century Lunar Society of Birmingham.
- "dramatic presentation ... accompanied by music ... beautifully presented ... with 18thC flair".  Clearly not to be missed.
Tuesday, 13th April ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Change of venue - now at Ecgwins Club.  After the formal meeting, those wishing to stay on are invited to a wine and cheese party, which will cost £3 per head.  A chance for a good natter.
Wednesday, 19th May DAY TRIP TO BUXTON
In response to many requests this has been reinstated for this year.  The town has a stunning setting, magnificent architecture that includes the famous eighteenth century crescent, a nineteenth century Pavilion and the recently beautifully refurbished Opera House.  Qualified guides will lead us around longer or shorter routes, leaving time to explore individually.
Leave Twyford CP 8.30am, back there at 6.30pm.  Cost £20 per head.
Sunday, June 20th SOCIETY STRAWBERRY TEA
In the garden of Gerald and Sandra Farquhar at Sherborne House in Ashton under Hill.  Enjoy fine views across the Vale.
At 3.30pm, cost £6 per head.
Tuesday, 13th July A VISIT TO THE HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT
A fascinating opportunity to see for ourselves where it all happens.  We shall have a guided tour of both houses and our MP Peter Luff will meet us afterwards for a chat.  Light lunches are available at one of the restaurants in the House.
We will need to make an early start at 8am from the Country Park and will leave London at 3pm to arrive back about 6pm.  Cost £20 per head.   
Wednesday, 15th September VISIT TO WARWICK UNIVERSITY CAMPUS AND KENILWORTH CASTLE
A short student guided tour of the modern buildings of one of our most successful newer universities, followed by an opportunity to visit the Castle ruins, now immaculately preserved by English Heritage.  The visit includes a guided tour of the newly created and highly acclaimed Elizabethan Garden.  Lunches are available at the university.
Depart Country Park 11.30am, back approx. 5.30pm.  Cost £15 per head.   
Tuesday, 12th October WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE LIGHTS GO OUT?
Dr John Sandalls, an acknowledged expert, is going to talk to us about alternative energy sources.
Tuesday, 9th November

WYCHAVON'S PARKS AND OPEN SPACES
Lynn Stevens is Wychavon's Parks Officer and has brought about a vast improvement of Evesham's Abbey Park.  She will talk about this and the other parks and open spaces over the rest of Wychavon.

   

ALL MEETINGS WILL BE AT THE PUBLIC LIBRARY IN OAT STREET, STARTING AT 7.30 p.m., UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED. 

Admission: Members £2.00, Visitors £3.00
